Suter St. Housing Development Nears Completion
What used to be a few large piles of dirt has been completely developed into the first four units on Suter St., marking a significant milestone in our mission to provide safe and affordable housing in Harrisonburg, Virginia. New homeowners actively participating in the construction are expected to purchase and occupy their homes by the end of July.
Our ability to build these homes affordably is a direct result of the invaluable contributions of our trade partners. Their support is not just about building houses; it's about making homeownership a reality for families in Harrisonburg. As Scott Kleist, Central Valley Habitat for Humanity Board Chair, puts it, “The mission of Habitat is to provide affordable home ownership. If we had to build a home at market rates, then it just wouldn't be affordable.”
The expertise of several skilled contractors specializing in areas such as electrical work, plumbing, HVAC, roofing, framing, and concrete played critical roles in the success of the Suter St. project.
Chaney Enterprises: Proudly donated the concrete necessary for the construction.
R.S. Monger & Sons: Contributed during the planning stages by securing discounted materials from suppliers, significantly reducing costs for Central Valley Habitat.
Riddleberger Brothers: Installed the underground plumbing, emphasizing the importance of positively impacting our communities.
And many, many more!
These companies embody the spirit of giving back. Their support not only helps build homes, it strengthens our community.
The construction of the second set of four units is already underway, with framing set to begin next month. Additionally, excavation for the remaining triplex will commence soon, continuing our collective effort to expand affordable housing options in our community.
If you're interested in becoming a trade partner, contact our office, reach out through social media, or contact us on our website.
