When Many Hands Lift, the Load is Lighter

In the heart of the Suter St project, Central Valley Habitat for Humanity is weaving dreams into the very fabric of our community. As we embark on our most ambitious housing endeavor to date — constructing 11 homes across 4 duplexes and a triplex — the spirit of collaboration takes center stage. Since January 2023, CVHfH has conducted a capital campaign to raise funds to expand its mission of building housing for low-income families in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. In the past 12 months, the capital campaign has raised $3M toward a goal that is expected to be $4M. The mantra "many hands make light work" resonates deeply as Central Valley Habitat joins forces with local businesses and community members to build a better tomorrow.

In the pursuit of providing safe and comfortable homes, Lennox contributed not only HVAC systems at cost, but also provided other installation services at a reduced cost, allowing us to meet our budget for the project and showcasing their commitment to our community. As the hum of construction echoes through the Suter St neighborhood, Massanutten Technical Center's HVAC students are at the forefront of volunteering their time and labor. Contributing the necessary labor to install the HVAC systems, these students gain invaluable on-the-job training while actively participating in our mission to create lasting change. It's a symbiotic relationship where education meets altruism, allowing individuals to gain skills that will serve them for life. GAF Roofing donated all of the necessary roofing materials for free, and Valley Roofing completed the installation at cost, helping us maximize our budget.

Beyond bricks and mortar, our Trade Partners bring specialized skills that quicken the pace of construction, enhance our efficiency, and reduce costs. Whether donating labor and materials or offering them at a reduced cost, Trade Partners and Volunteers amplify our mission to provide affordable housing. In return, they find fulfillment in using their skills for the greater good. As the Suter St project blossoms with each passing day, it becomes more than just a collection of houses. It becomes a testament to the profound impact that Trade partners, like Lennox, Massanutten Technical Center, and Valley Roofing, can have on a community. Together, with many hands lifting, we are not just building homes — we are constructing a future where everyone has a place to call their own.
