Despite the struggles of COVID-19, our organization is working to uphold our mission statement of bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. During a global pandemic, bringing people together can seem like an impossible task and many people feel like they may be stranded at home without a way to interact with others and be present in their community.
This year, we’re hoping to encourage everyone to be socially distanced – together. While we aren’t accepting volunteer groups or public volunteers on our construction sites at this time, there are many other ways to be involved not only in our organization but in making a difference in our community!
Join a Committee and Make a Difference
One of the easiest ways of volunteering with our organization involves going no farther than your couch at home. Our seven committees meet virtually via Zoom once a month to further the mission of Central Valley Habitat for Humanity!
There is a little something for everyone no matter what your experience as long as you have an intrinsic belief that everyone deserves to have a safe, decent and affordable place to call home.
Committees are often the first place that individuals that aspire to sit on the Central Valley Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors start their journey. One can not serve the community if one does not know the community, and we want to give you the full experience!

What committees can I join?
Our organization currently has seven committees for volunteers to choose from, with another committee in the development stages.
These include:
- Church Relations Committee
- Resource Development Committee
- Building and Site Selection Committee
- Volunteer Committee
- Family Selection Committee*
- Family Support Committee
- Banquet Committee
- Sponsorship Committee – In Development
*Committees with an asterisk require pre-training or screening by current members and staff before joining
Contact our office at (540) 828-6288 and ask to speak with our Executive Director or Community Outreach Coordinator about joining the committee that you’re interested in.

The Committees

Family Support Committee
Requires Pre-Training
Family support committee works with our families to help guide them through the Habitat process. This includes making sure they get in sweat equity hours, learning what their needs are, and more.

Family Selection Committee
Requires Pre-Screening
Family selection is a tight group of previous Executive Directors, managers, and individuals with experience in credit reports that carefully examine applications to help find our future homeowners. Individuals that would like to join this committee will be vetted by Habitat staff.

Banquet Committee
No Screening Required
Banquet committee spends the year planning our annual fundraising banquet held each May. This involves months of planning for meals, live and silent auction, calling sponsors and donors, and organizing the event.

Building and Site Selection Committee
No Pre-Screening Required
Building and Site committee is made up of realtors, construction volunteers, engineers, and more. They assist in where we’re at in the building process, finding lots, and problem-solving.

Volunteer Committee
No Screening Required
This committee works on scheduling volunteers, volunteer appreciation, and how to make the Habitat volunteer experience a positive one to keep them returning to our site.

Church Relations Committee
No Screening Required
Church relations committee is made up of members from local faith organizations, pastors, church representatives, and Habitat staff. This committee works on connecting with churches by creating faith-related events and initiatives, recruiting faith volunteers, and planning faith build projects.

Resource Development Committee
No Training Required
Resource Development committee works to find financial resources and opportunities for CVHFH. This may include fundraising events, contacts, and more.

Sponsorship Committee - In Development
Training Not Yet Determined
This committee is still in development. It’s focus will be on locating and contacting businesses, churches, and organizations to sponsor Habitat builds.
I would like to have the youth group at my church volunteer on occasions. What would be the sign up process?
