The past year has been a whirlwind of progress for Central Valley Habitat for Humanity. When we were tasked with building capacity, we decided to go big or go home! In 2019 we plan to keep the ball rolling with approximately 5 new builds completed over the next 12-18 months.

Roberts Ct. in Harrisonburg

We’re finishing up our work at Roberts Ct. in Harrisonburg that we started in 2018, allowing us to place four families in two duplex homes on the north end of town. These homes are in the finishing stages and the first dedication is scheduled for March 17! The duplex that is 979 and 975 Roberts Ct. will be dedicated on that Sunday with a plan for the second duplex (969, 965) to have a projected dedication date in the beginning of April.

Despite the fact we’re finishing two duplexes in this area, we aren’t finished here just yet! We have the option on our tract of land to build another duplex which will allow us to place another two families in need. Right now we’re projecting to be back working at Roberts Ct. in Harrisonburg building 955 and 959 in July.

Kelley St. in Harrisonburg

Last year we acquired funding from the Neighborhood Sustainability Program (NSP) to improve the community of Kelley St. in Harrisonburg by tearing down an old home that was condemned and attracting the wrong kind of crowd. Working with the City of Harrisonburg to acquire this property we tore down the house that was there and will be able to build two new homes for local families.

You can watch our video on what Kelley St. looked like before we demolished the house here.

Number 226 Kelley St. is projected to begin in March with 232 Kelley St. slated to start two months later in May or June. A potential family for one of the Kelley St. homes has already been selected and working on Sweat Equity hours.

We’d like to specifically recognize Aaron Yoder with AM Yoder & Co and Randy Seitz with Blue Ridge Architects for the work they’ll be doing on these homes.

Daffodil Dr. in Timberville/Plains

Last but not least we’ll be starting a build in the Timberville/Plains area on a lot on Daffodil Dr. We don’t have a family selected for this property yet and we’re actively looking for applicants that would like to live in Timberville.

This build is slated to begin in March and we’re hoping that with good weather conditions we can make a start on the excavation of all the properties we’ll be working on this year.

For applicants that want to live in Timberville on Daffodil Dr. you can apply at our office in Bridgewater until further notice or visit our table at the Plains District Community Center in Timberville on Tuesdays in February from 3:00 – 6:00 PM in the Chamber Room.
