As we approach the end of the year, it’s time to starting thinking about how we can volunteer and better our community in 2020! It’s the start of a new decade where we are taking the stand to not only build capacity within our organization, but build capacity so that we can increase our partner families.
In this blog post we’ll walk you through how to use our online sign-up calendar to volunteer with Central Valley Habitat for Humanity!
Step One – Visit our volunteer information form
The first step in volunteering with our organization is to fill out our volunteer sign-up/information form. This form tells us a little about you, your interests and skills on and off the construction site and your availability.
To sign-up for a volunteer day, you have to fill out this form or your volunteer day with us will be cancelled.

Step 2: Head to SignUp.com to our volunteer calendar to pick your day
We’re using an online sign-up calendar to organize our volunteers. The link to this calendar can be found in various places around our website including on the home page and on our volunteer information page.
Clicking the sign-up button will take you to our calendar where you will see a list of available days in 2020, the jobs that we need that day and how many volunteers we’re requesting.
We only support volunteers on the construction site right now on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday mornings from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Saturdays are generally reserved for groups of up to 10 people.
Days that still have sign-up spots available will have a green SIGN UP button next to them. Once a day fills up, no more volunteers will be able to schedule themselves for that day.
Volunteer days are locked a week in advance in order to give our construction manager advance notice of how many volunteers to expect. If you would like to volunteer, please sign-up more than a week in advance of your chosen day.
Step 3: Navigating the Sign-Up Form
There are 3 options when it comes to signing up to volunteer on the construction site.
- CVHFH Approved Volunteer Supervisor
- Habitat Family Member – Sweat Equity
- Volunteer – Construction Site
If you are a general volunteer, you will need to select the Volunteer – Construction Site position to sign up for. Only individuals that have been pre-approved by our office can sign-up to be the approved volunteer supervisor, if you sign-up in this spot and you have not been approved, your sign-up will be removed by the system admin.
Once general volunteer spots are gone for that day, no more volunteers can sign-up, you will need to choose a different day.
Step 4: Fill Out Your Information
Once you’ve input your email and clicked continue, you will be asked to fill out your information. This includes your name, email, phone number and if you have filled out the sign-up form on our website. If you have not filled out the sign-up form, your sign-up will be removed.
You will need to select the number of spots you would like to sign-up for. If it’s just you, please select 1. If you are bringing other people with you, please put in the total amount of people coming, so if it is you and 3 friends, you would put in 4 spots total.
Step 5: Wait for your location email
Once you have signed up for a day, you will receive reminder emails leading up to that day letting you know that you signed up to volunteer. The location of your volunteer day will not be sent out until a day or two before your volunteer day, so please be sure to check your email! We send out the construction site for your volunteer day via email at least one day before so that if you need directions you can call our organization. If you do not receive a reminder email by at least the day before, please email email@example.com.
